Case Study: Project Eastern

Set above the ocean in Dover Heights, this complete internal renovation transformed a dated residence into a refined Greek Islands-inspired retreat — layered with natural texture, sculptural detailing and a soft, sun-washed palette designed to feel calm, timeless and quietly luxurious.

Completed in 2026, the project involved a full internal reconfiguration, with every space carefully considered to create a home that feels both elevated and effortless.

The Brief

The client’s vision was to create a sanctuary-like home inspired by the relaxed elegance of the Greek Islands — warm whites, natural materials, curved architectural forms and interiors that felt light-filled, textural and understated.

The design direction focused on:

  • Soft Mediterranean influences

  • Natural and tactile materiality

  • Warm neutral tones

  • Sculptural curves and arched forms

  • Seamless indoor comfort and functionality

  • Layered lighting and natural light enhancement

  • A calm, resort-inspired atmosphere

Material Palette & Interior Detailing

A restrained palette of microcement, travertine, oak timber and natural stone was used throughout the home to create cohesion and warmth.

Key finishes included:

  • Microcement wall and surface finishes

  • Travertine floor and feature tiles

  • Oak timber flooring throughout

  • Linen sheer curtains

  • Arched openings and curved transitions

  • VJ panelling to vaulted ceilings

  • Exposed ceiling beams

  • Oversized skylights to maximise natural light

Curved forms became a defining feature of the renovation, softening transitions between spaces and introducing a more fluid architectural language throughout the home.

Kitchen Design

Designed as the centrepiece of the home, the kitchen balances sculptural form with everyday functionality.

Features include:

  • Custom curved joinery

  • Integrated bench seating

  • Concealed storage solutions

  • Seamless island detailing

  • Dekton Sabbia porcelain stone

  • Integrated invisible cooktop technology

  • Warm oak detailing and custom cabinetry

Rather than feeling like a traditional kitchen, the space was designed to read more like a custom furniture piece — refined, minimal and highly resolved.

Above, vaulted ceilings lined in VJ panelling, exposed beams and oversized skylights create a dramatic sense of openness while flooding the interior with natural light.

Bathroom Design

The bathrooms were designed with a quiet, spa-like sensibility, layering organic textures and minimal detailing to create spaces that feel grounded and timeless.

Features include:

  • Custom timber joinery

  • Natural stone mosaics

  • Curved detailing throughout

  • Microcement finishes

  • Warm neutral palette

  • Custom hand-crafted concrete bathtub

The bespoke concrete bathtub became a hero feature within the main bathroom — individually formed and poured specifically for the project, adding a sculptural and artisanal quality to the space.

Craftsmanship & Detailing

A strong emphasis was placed on craftsmanship, finish consistency and refined detailing throughout the renovation.

From the seamless application of microcement finishes to the integration of concealed appliances, custom joinery and carefully curated textures, every element was designed to feel cohesive and considered.

The result is a highly resolved coastal retreat that balances architectural character, warmth and contemporary functionality with a distinctly elevated editorial aesthetic.
